CPIS and Child Protect do different jobs.

CPIS is a government system. Child Protect is software a school runs for its own safeguarding records. Here is a fair look at what each is for, and what a school still needs to do itself.

Quick answer

What is the difference between CPIS and Child Protect?

CPIS, the Child Protection Information System, is operated by the Department of Children and Youth under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) and is used in the government’s child protection services. Child Protect Platform is software a school or school group uses to receive concerns, manage its own safeguarding cases, keep evidence, and prepare and record referrals to agencies. They serve different purposes. Child Protect does not connect to CPIS today.

How they fit together

1
A concern arrives

A student, parent or staff member raises it, in person or through the school’s anonymous channel.

2
The school manages the case

The safeguarding lead triages, records, preserves evidence and decides next steps in Child Protect.

3
The school refers

The lead contacts the right agency, such as police or the MSDHS 1300 helpline, using a minimal-disclosure pack.

4
The school keeps its record

The referral is logged permanently so the school can show its response.

Questions to ask about any system

Who can access it? What can the school see about its own cases? How are evidence and anonymity handled? Can the school show what it did and when? For CPIS, contact the Department of Children and Youth to confirm who may use it and for what.

Working alongside CPIS

Child Protect does not integrate with CPIS today. Whether and when an outside agency is contacted is the safeguarding lead’s decision.

Common questions

Is CPIS the same as Child Protect?

No. CPIS is a government child protection information system. Child Protect is software a school uses for its own safeguarding records.

Do I still need school safeguarding software if CPIS exists?

A school still needs its own way to receive concerns, manage cases, preserve evidence and record referrals. Confirm with the Department of Children and Youth how your school may use CPIS.

Does Child Protect connect to CPIS?

Not today. Child Protect prepares a referral pack and records the referral the school makes.

Who runs CPIS?

The Department of Children and Youth, under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.

What should a school look for in safeguarding software?

A school should look for case management it controls, secure evidence storage, an audit trail, a safe way for children to report including anonymously, escalation of serious concerns, a record of referrals, role-based access with two-factor sign-in, and Thai language support.
